More ice storm pics and bothy SAL update

We were without power for 3 1/2 days.  We were lucky to have the woodstove and generator, the thing we missed the most was running water.  Our generator wasn't big enough to handle the water system.  I'm pretty sure we are going to remedy this by next winter.  My parents got their power on a day sooner than us so I was able to take shower there.

I really thought the top of my birch tree was going to break!  Thankfully it didn't.

I was able to do some stitching on my Bothy threads project.
Wishing everyone a Happy New Year!

Ice Storm

Well, we have been without power now since Saturday at 3am from a bad ice storm.  I'll have better pictures once I can download them from my SLR.  We are lucky we have a woodstove and a generator so we have our fridge and a small TV hooked up but no running water.  Believe it or not I've been able to do a little stitching with a flashlight :0)

The hydro companies App says today at noon we will have power, crossing my fingers!

Long Time

Things have been very busy around here!
Here is an update on my Bothy stitchery.  Sadly no time for quilting these days.

Just wanted to show you the reason why I have to miss Friday night sew ins lately.  My dog training class for Treiball is on Friday nights....I know.....what is that??
Its a sport that was developed in Europe.  It involves exercise balls and the dog is taught to herd them into you by pushing them with their nose.  They start with all the balls in a triangle similar to when you start off in playing pool.

This is my almost 9 year old Lab playing the game.

I have also been playing Rally free with my Golden and we spent a lot of time practicing and getting ready for his video submission towards his title.  I will show you that as soon as it gets judged.

One of our older Labs had to have surgery yesterday to remove a couple of problematic benign tumours.  He is feeling the pain right now and I hope it improves for him soon.  He is eating well so that is a good sign.
Here he is but I can't get this pic to rotate....oh well.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend :0)

Had a very enjoyable evening for the FNSI.  This is all I can show you as its part of a blog hop I will be participating in.  I traced the embroidery patterns, did some cutting and then sat and started on the stitching.
I love the Friday night sew-ins as it makes me set time aside for sewing.

Hope everyone enjoyed their sew ins!

FNWF very late post and bothy stitch update

I am very late with this post, sometimes life just gets in the way!
I did get two more blocks done on my Among the Stars FQS BOM quilt and a start on two more, slowly getting there.

My Bothy stitch update.  I also made a scrunchie for it.  Thanks Deb for the link.
And a new start to get into the Halloween spirit :0)
We went to Rib Fest which raises money for charity.  Couldn't believe the smoke coming from all those grills.  Not sure if I would do it again but it was an experience.  This is the view of it from a new $4 million dollar pier built by the city.

Happy stitching!

Its been too long

Since I posted last, things have been busy.
We did a major thinning out of the trees on the property, it was way overdue and we need to replace our back fence and some of the trees and branches would be in the way.  We have a great friend who lent us his tractor and chipper and with the help of the neighbour's lift we were able to get the job done over the August long weekend.  Mulch anyone??  I still hear that chipper in my sleep, lol.

We also installed large rocks in front of the house. Hubby is removing the slope.
Now, I can see this from my back deck.
I will do a stitching update soon :0)

FNSI and Bothy stitch update

Well, that didn't go as planned!  The weather here was crazy last evening with threats of tornados.  The thunder and lightening for about an hour was non-stop with the power going on and off, high winds, hail and very heavy rain. Needless to say I did not get much sewing done.  A big branch broke over our shed, thankfully its our old one that we have to replace anyway.  I did start to work on my Christmas quilt BOM from the FQS.

Also a couple of pics of the dogs keeping cool in the pond, our visit to the Royal Botanical Gardens and me competing with two of my guys.  Reed got his Working Certificate and Reese got her Working Certificate Excellent title earlier in the month.

My belated BothyThreads update (sorry Deb).  The pony is taking shape.
Have a great weekend!

Weekend stuff

It was  a very hot and quiet weekend filled with gardening, baking and playing with the dogs, in other words.....perfect ;0)
I found this statue on clearance at a local nursery.  Just couldn't resist a Lab mom and her pups.

My roses went crazy this year and I still have to clean up this part of the garden!

Puppy Cal, now about 16 weeks.

A little cooling off in the pool.

Belle sunning herself in some kind of yoga position, lol.

Finally, the first of the sheep virtues done.
Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Cat and bothy stitchery update

I got her!!  She is not a happy camper but she and her kittens are safe and sound.  I finally put the kittens in the trap I tried to stay near by but I could tell mama cat was waiting for me to leave so I went to do some gardening in the back yard and half an hour later came out to find her in the trap.  She is now being fostered by the shelter manager and has been named her Dottie.  I donated some money that would cover her spay surgery.  I think she will come around to be adoptable.

Monday SAL update a day late.  I had a wisdom tooth and one other one removed yesterday and am very thankful for drugs, lol.

Friday night was perfect for sewing, rainy and cool.  Everyone got a bone to chew so mom could get some sewing done :0)
I worked on my last SAL project.  I just have to put it together.  I will finish it today sometime.  I really want to start using it.

I was very remiss on posting my win from the Sew we Quilt blog during one of their hops.  It was abolutely full of goodies!  Very generous!

And for some cuteness.  Here is a picture of the kittens that were born in my garage. I wanted to check them out and make sure everything was ok.  Mom didn't mind a bit.  I tired to put them in a better spot with towels, etc. but mom moved them out and put them back in the straw...oh well.  If only I could catch her, she is just too wise for the trap.  It was suggested I put the kittens in the trap.  I'm not sure I like the idea in case she freaks out in there with them.
Hope everyone had a great sewing night :0)

Busy weekend

Its been a very busy few days.  With all that rain we got a big branch broke.  The dogs thought it was great and would wrestle with the branches, I guess they were trying to help ;0)

It's all cut up and ready to burn next weekend.
We also judged a retriever trial.  I just love watching the dogs doing what they were bred to do.  They just have a blast and have smiles on their faces.
If you make this bigger you can see the dog coming back from finding his bird :0)
I would love to have this in my backyard!

The weather was a little iffy form very heavy rainfall to high winds and even had to stop the test for a snapping turtle wrestling....didn't want any dogs finding it and getting bit.
Didn't get a lot done on the crafty front but did get a start on my bothy SAL project.

And another dilemma a cat has had a litter in our garage.  Looks like there are three kittens.  We are trying to trap her as a rescue group has a foster home waiting for her.  I've been trying since she moved in and I noticed that she was pregnant.......anyone have any ideas!!

This and that

First I want to share my exciting news.  Star and I have passed our UTDX (Urban tracking dog excellent) test which finishes her Tracking Championship....so awesome.  We have been working for three years on this with a few ups and downs and it was so nice to pass.  There are approximately 30 Tracking Champions in Canada.
I had a blast watching the kids play on the dog agility equipment at the end of the test.  They put the goats in there to keep the grass down.
A few of the flowers blooming right now.
This variegated lilac is very pretty but has no scent, I was a bit disappointed by that when it bloomed for the first time.

My crab apple tree has never looked better, hardly any tent caterpillars this year, must be the cooler spring.
And lastly my SAL June pin cushion is complete.
Hope everyone had a great weekend :0)
